Intaglio Printmaking Online
Weeks 2, 8 | Online | Ages 18+
This interdisciplinary printmaking course will focus on the exploration and development of each student’s unique ideas and sensibilities inspired by the printmaking medium. This course will introduce various printmaking techniques, such as relief, intaglio, and lithographic processes, and will also embrace the integration of the stay-at-home studio. Historical and contemporary artists will be introduced throughout the week. Student projects, collaborations, and experimentation along with scheduled critiques, reflections, and group discussions will be important components of this course.
Intaglio Printing: The class focuses on creating intaglio prints from zinc and plexiglass plates. It covers basic techniques including drypoint, etching, Chine-collé, engraving, plate preparation, and printing Intaglio prints are a diverse set of processes, offering an artist a unique set of tools and marks with which to experiment and communicate.
Sam Peck
Samuel H. Peck is an artist-researcher-educator from Providence, Rhode Island with seventeen years of teaching experience, preK-16. He earned his BFA from URI and his MFA from the UNCG. Peck’s visual journals, drawing, printmaking, and installation practices occupy and explore the conceptual, stylistic, and contextual concerns of his work. Peck currently works at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the UMinn - Twin Cities as a Ph.D. Student and researcher with his partner Lindsay and their rescue, Sundance.
Brett Taylor
Brett J. Taylor is an artist and art educator from South Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing from the University of Florida and is currently pursuing his Master of Studio Art in Printmaking from The Ohio State University. Taylor’s artistic practice is an embodied transdisciplinary investigation into the continuous construction of the body and being through lenses of queerness, masculinity, and ability. Brett has shown work in galleries, hospitals, and museums both nationally and internationally, worked in multiple print shops, and attended residencies including Chautauqua Visual Arts in 2019.
