A Little Night Music involves the romantic life of several couples. If you have yet to understand the place Stephen Sondheim has in Broadway history, start your study with the musical from which Sondheim’s only "hit song" — "Send in the Clowns" — came about, and better understand the incredible wordplay and character development which Sondheim excelled in. Written mostly in waltz meter ¾ time, we’ll explore the place this unique piece has enjoyed, often performed by opera companies, as well as Sondheim's musical career. We will also watch a New York City Opera production of the musical.
