Mindfulness in Wellness and Illness

Week 7 | M, Tu, W, Th, F | Hultquist 201B | Ages 16 and up

Participants will learn to develop mindfulness through guided meditation and brief exercises that will help them experience the present moment during everyday activities.Although no specific outcome is promised, participants typically report feeling more alive and more "in-tune" with themselves and others. In addition, research has shown significant beneficial effects in dealing with stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression, chronic pain, and diabetes.

Class Times

Students should come to class prepared with the following materials:

  • Pen and paper or tablet to take notes; 
  • and cell phone to take screen shots if desired.

Jayashree Rao

Dr. Jayashree Rao is a retired pediatric endocrinologist, who spent thirty years teaching, researching, and practicing medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center and Children's Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Having received training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and other courses by Mindful Schools, Mindful Leader, and Mindful Education, she now teaches others employing techniques offered by psychotherapist Dave Potter.
