Nonviolence in Theory and Practice
Week 3 | M, Tu, W, Th, F | Smith Library Classroom | Ages 14+
This course will explore the nature of violence, misconceptions about violence, and the various approaches that writers and activists have taken toward nonviolence. We examine myths about violence and a spectrum of approaches to nonviolence, all in attempt to understand the nature of nonviolence. Specific topics include "good people" and "bad people," the alleged "necessity" of violence and punishment, nonviolence as civil resistance, limits of nonviolence as civil resistance, and comprehensive or principled nonviolence.
